KindlePreviewer Issue

I got a strange error when trying to install the KindlePreviewer application from Amazon.

Error: "KindlePreviewer instance is already running. Please close all KindlePreviewer Instances and press Retry to continue Installation."

I checked task manager and there were no running instances. I then realized that, like most of the install problems on Windows 7, this could probably be fixed by running the installer with administrative rights. Sure enough, right clicking and selecting "Run as administrator" fixed the issue.

I'm just posting this in case someone else forgets to run this as admin and searches for a solution. Hope I helped!

  4. Excellent! I don't know how long that would have taken me to work out on my own, but it certainly wouldn't have been the 15 seconds it took to find and read your blog post. Thanks!

  5. Hi, thanks for posting this. I don't know if this is the case with every user, but I saw this error message only when I tried to install in a different folder. The default location was the App\Local folder, which I didn't notice until after I'd installed. I didn't want it there so uninstalled, and this time chose to install in C:\Program Files. I'm running Windows 7, 64bit, on a partitioned drive.

    1. Thanks for the extra insight! I encountered this issue a long time ago, so I can't remember the exact specifics, but I have a feeling I might have done the same thing you did (I usually insist that programs be installed under the program files directory).
